Zenith Pau in Pau, France 15/11/2019
I absolutely LOVE the new show! It’s phenomenal! The best thing was to see how everyone around me loved it equally much. That person who before the show was wondering if the flame is till there summarized the situation after the gig: It’s not a flame, the whole fucking house is burning! So happy to see Mika back touring this way. To everyone who’s still doubting if they should see this show or not and have a possibility, yes you should see it. You don’t want to miss this one.
I always choose the purest and simplest concept, I want the show to be totally focused on Mika and not the show elements. However, this time the show elements were all built around him, there was nothing “unnecessary”. Ask me if I want to see Mika performing Underwater on the top of the pink piano that goes high and I tell you yes, I do want to see it. Now it’s one of my favourite things in the world and I didn’t even know until last night. He was the star of the evening every second of the show, I hardly even noticed the band was there. I can still remember how much I loved the first Heaven Tour show in Rennes four years ago and how much it surprised me but this went way beyond that feeling and directly on the top of my favourite spectacle list. For me this is better than the good old times. I love to be impressed this way.
It was all actually very simple, the best thing was to see how Mika was in the center of everything. He is such a star, I love seeing him like this and I loved seeing his face expressing he was totally aware of how amazing it all was. I loved the confidence. I loved seeing his parents on the background image, I loved the piano. Three favourite moments in Pau: Paloma (the most breathtaking moment of the night), Underwater on the top of the piano, Platform Ballerinas. Loved Happy Ending, Loved how well the new songs like Dear Jealousy and Tomorrow worked. The French audience doesn’t know Popular as well as the previous ones, they might prefer Boum Boum Boum but maybe they will get used to it and otherwise the setlist worked perfectly well and just curious if there will be any changes.
The stage comes strongly in the middle of the crowd and Mika moves a lot and gives attention to the both sides of the stage so more people get possibilities to see him from close distance compared to the regular front row. Also, because of the piano I assume the seated area has a good view. I have a seat for Toulouse and will tell afterwards how it was.
