Parc des Princes in Paris, France 4/7/2008

The massive spectacle at Parc des Princes in Paris July 2008 was my second Mika show – I was still a beginner at Mika gigs – and the event was such an emotional experience it’s not even possible to describe or explain it all. The show that was designed together with stage designer Es Devlin was literally a circus. It was so colorful and full of details it almost caused me a sensory overload. It must have been one of the most important moments of Mika’s career and I’m so grateful I saw it. At the same time wish I could see it all again to be able to register and remember every single detail in it. My first thought would be how huge and important it is. Big on any scale and for any artist. I would think how special it is for Mika to make his childhood dreams come true by creating a real circus, I would wonder how many people and working hours are needed to prepare a concert that big and what a financial risk the event must be. I would take hundreds of pictures and document every show element.

That time all I could think was how much I needed the energy. My children were still very young and I couldn’t travel on my own so I took my whole family including my sister in law with me and spent a week in Paris to be able to see the show. It was wonderful. It worked exactly as I had hoped and kept me happy for months. I don’t think arenas are ideal for any artist, they are more suitable for bands. The stage was giant and Mika was running most of the time. I had a seat and I was a bit jealous watching people partying in front of stage, I was jealous watching professional photographers walking around the venue as a group with all their equipments. However, my view was wonderful. I loved watching the show elements brought into the crowd, I loved watching the massive audience. It was a magical night and a lovely week in Paris. The highlight of the show was Love Today with a giant dragon going through the audience and during the night we heard also an early version of Rain and Just can’t get enough which is one of Mika’s rare covers.
